Water sports on the Vechtasee

The Vechtesee is located in the inner city of Nordhorn , the district town of the Grafschaft Bentheim district in Lower Saxony . It is one of the largest lakes in the county.

Emergence

Floods in the Vechte were frequent in earlier years, one of the most severe being that of 1946, when large parts of Nordhorn's inner city were under water. First measures were taken as early as the 1930s. In the 1960s, the Vechte was comprehensively regulated up to the Nordhorn-Almelo Canal . The Vechtesee itself was created in 1974 to protect against flooding . Sand should be deposited in the 16 hectare Vechtesee so that the Vechte is always deep enough and can drain off enough water ( sand trap ).

Tourism and local recreation

In summer you can use a variety of offers. For example, you can go pedal boating in the Vechtesee from May to October or take the excursion boats Vechtestromer or Vechtesonne to show you the area. You can also do water sports such as windsurfing , sailing and paddling , or take a walk on the two-kilometer path around the lake. Furthermore, the is kunstwegen -Station Parabolic Triangular Pavilion I of the American artist Dan Graham on the eastern shore of Vechtesees.

In addition to the local boat club, there has been a hotel and restaurant complex on Lake Vechtesee since 2009. The DLRG local group Nordhorn also has its rescue station on Lake Vechtesee.

In addition to fishing in the lake (including white and predatory fish stock ), are especially in summer coots , grebes , tufted ducks , mallards , moorhens , herons and cormorants to see.
