Veitch barberry ( Berberis veitchii ) is one of China originating plant from the kind of barberry ( Berberis ) in the family of Barberry (Berberidaceae).

description

Veitch's barberry is an evergreen shrub that reaches heights of up to 2 meters. The bark of the young twigs is colored red. The leaves are 6 to 12 cm long, lanceolate and prickly serrated, dark green on top and light to yellow-green below. The leaf spines are up to 4 cm long and tripartite. The long-stalked flowers are bronze to yellow and are in axillary to eight-fold clusters. The berries are black-blue and frosted.

The home of Veitchs barberry is in central China . It was introduced in Europe in 1900 by Ernest Henry Wilson , who collected plants for Veitch and Sons in western and central China from 1899 to 1905 .

Like many other barberries, this species is used as an ornamental shrub.
