The Velký Jelení vrch ( Great Deer Mountain; 514 m) is a mountain in the Ralská pahorkatina in northern Bohemia ( Czech Republic ). Since 1996 the rocky summit area of ​​the mountain together with the neighboring Malý Jelení vrch has been a natural monument under state protection on a total of 7.9 hectares .

Location and surroundings

The Velký Jelení vrch is located about seven kilometers east of Mimoň ( Niemes ) and three kilometers south of Stráž pod Ralskem ( Wartenberg ) in the midst of a vast, now uninhabited, rocky forest landscape. Immediately south of the mountain was once the municipality of Svébořice ( Schwabitz ), which was demolished around 1947 because of the establishment of the Ralsko military training area .

View towards Mimoň

The view from the top is very extensive. In the north, the view extends to the Lusatian Mountains , in the west to the Bohemian Central Mountains and in the south to the hilly forest landscape of the Kummergebirge and Daubaer Schweiz . In the east the view is limited by the Jeschkenkamm . Striking mountains in the field of vision are the Ralsko ( Roll ), the Ještěd ( Jeschken ) and the Bezděz ( Bösig ).

Paths to the summit

There are no marked hiking trails leading to Velký Jelení vrch. An ascent is possible from the east along the old historical path.
