Velvet Sky was a South African low-cost airline based in Durban and based at King Shaka International Airport . It was liquidated on May 14, 2012.

history

Velvet Sky was formally founded by local business people in 2009, but practically in January 2011 and began flight operations on March 22, 2011. It was owned by Macdonalds Holdings, founded in 1970 .

At the end of February 2012 a creditor filed for liquidation against Velvet Sky and flight operations were suspended from February 27, 2012 until further notice. The company then worked on a restructuring plan, which was rejected by a court on May 14; in the course of this decision, the liquidation was initiated.

The airline served the national destinations Johannesburg and Cape Town from King Shaka International Airport in Durban . From October 1, 2011 a connection from Johannesburg to Polokwane is to be started. In the medium term, further national and regional flights should be added to the flight plan.
