profile

Ver.di Jugend sees itself as a specialist organization for training and career entry. As part of the unified service union, the ver.di youth organization organizes thousands of trainees, young employees, the unemployed, schoolchildren and students across Germany. It conducts youth education with a focus on company work, collective bargaining and social policy. It takes up the experiences of young employees, trainees, students etc. and transfers them democratically, participatory-oriented and self-organized into political and trade union action. The educational mandate to be derived from this is: to enable people to improve their own living and working conditions in the company and in society. For this, knowledge about the functioning and contradictions in society is necessary, which is imparted in labor law, political and methodological seminars. Furthermore, the work is clearly directed against right-wing ideas.

Young company interest groups

Ver.di Jugend actively supports youth interest groups in companies. These are youth and trainee representatives (JAV) and trainee representatives (AV) in accordance with the provisions of the state staff representation laws or the Works Constitution Act. JAVen / AVen stand up for their young colleagues in training and at work and take the future into their own hands - for themselves and others. When it comes to the challenges of JAV work, such as: monitoring compliance with laws and collective bargaining agreements, continuously checking the quality of training and taking on as many trainees as possible, ver.di Jugend is a strong partner with professional and practical support to the side. The ver.di youth can fall back on a comprehensive network and the wealth of experience of one of the largest service unions in the world and accompany the JAV with competence, imagination and power in their daily work. The ver.di youth offers all ver.di members in the JAV / AV, personal support on site, various print materials such as B. work aids and posters / flyers, basic materials such. B. business cards and power point presentations and numerous seminars with exciting input, practical exercises and lots of fun to be fit for work in the JAV.

Collective labor

Collective bargaining is at the heart of union work. Wages, vacation entitlements and working conditions per se do not improve by themselves or through the favor of employers; only a strong union can negotiate the working conditions with the employers' associations. Tariff policy is about power - about pushing through the best possible result. This also applies to the ver.di youth. Our members determine what we demand in collective bargaining. Nobody knows the interests and needs of apprentices better than apprentices and young employees themselves. Before a collective bargaining round, ver.di Jugend first asks all of its members what demands they want to make in the collective bargaining round, then ver.di Jugend sets up independent collective bargaining committees which concludes its own collective agreements for trainees with employers, adapted to the needs of young people . The most important positions with a focus on apprentices and young employees are more apprenticeship positions, taking on all apprentices, an apprenticeship remuneration that you can live off of as well as good training and further education. For all of this, ver.di Jugend offers its members special tariff training courses to prepare them for the situation of collective bargaining and to impart relevant knowledge.

Seminars / training courses

The ver.di youth understanding of education is based on the process of self-development and self-determination of the person, so learning is a personal and autonomous process. The seminars of the ver.di youth offer the opportunity to deal with alternatives, visions and utopias over a certain period of time and to develop your own positions on them. The extensive seminar program, which is re-launched every year, extends from socio-political and operational topics to offers that are useful for personal further qualification. The seminars are mainly based on practice, because the educational offer should provide the necessary tools so that the members can be effectively active: for the interests of the company, for democratic co-determination and for social justice. Furthermore, the motto “Training together is fun” is in the foreground. In addition to learning the content, it is always about getting to know, networking and making new friends. The seminars are free of charge for members of ver.di Jugend. The seminars specially created for the JAV are always chargeable for the employer. The regional or nationwide educational program (s) can be picked up at any ver.di branch and viewed on the ver.di youth website.

Local service

Ver.di Jugend offers its members free service and advice on all questions relating to training and work. Membership also includes legal protection. In addition, it also offers additional supplies such as B. a leisure accident insurance. Full-time youth secretaries are available to the volunteer members of ver.di Jugend to ensure that everything runs smoothly. However, they are excluded from the formation of committees for volunteers, which is intended to preserve the democratic judgment of the members.

Actions / campaigns

The ver.di youth organizes activities and campaigns in various forms on many topics that affect young people and trainees. The ver.di youth z. B. creative street protests and forms of demonstration, public awareness and information work. It positions itself actively and publicly on current political events.

In 2009 there was the biggest campaign of the ver.di youth so far "What should politics?" In the so-called super election year , this campaign aimed to bring young people closer to politics and indirectly called on them to vote. Unlike previous campaigns, this one was interactive and was distributed via social networks. On the website www.wassollpolitik.de, active and interested parties were able to visualize various suggestions for forms of action. After the actions were carried out, photos and videos could be uploaded. Another part of the website was the question "What is politics?" to answer. The results were repeatedly displayed on the website. The aim of the campaign was to set youth-related topics for the federal election campaign and the time after.
