Veratryl alcohol ( 3,4-dimethoxybenzyl alcohol ) is structurally derived from both benzyl alcohol and veratrole ( o- dimethoxybenzene).
It can be prepared from veratrumaldehyde in methanolic solution by reduction with hydrogen / Raney nickel at room temperature and normal pressure.
