Consumer organization

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A consumer organization , also known as consumer protection organization ( Swiss consumer protection organization ) or consumer association , is an organization that advocates the interests of private consumers . This essentially includes legal advice and political representation of citizens , but also their interests in connection with education , consumer protection and consumer information .

Consumer organizations are mostly non-governmental organizations and operate nationally, but there are also some international organizations. Their corporate forms are often non-profit associations or foundations . They are active through publications , demonstrations or lobbying to educate and inform consumers . Important topics are the fight against fraud and fraudulent labeling (such as the so-called Astroturfing ), abuse or environmental pollution or the commitment to sustainability , product safety and environmental protection . Some organizations conduct comparative product tests in order to provide consumers with independent and objective information about the quality of products and services .
