Fédération romande des consommateurs

The Fédération romande of consommateurs (FRC) (dt. West Swiss consumer Association ) is a consumer protection organization of French-speaking Switzerland . It was founded in 1959 .

It consists of a general secretariat, a permanent office and the monthly FRC Mieux choisir ( Better to choose ), which publishes tests and consumer information.

The association is independent, without affiliation or affiliation with any economic, industrial, commercial, financial or religious group. He publishes tests, product comparisons and surveys in his magazine. He works with the responsible authorities on consumer policy issues in Switzerland. He can represent consumers in civil, administrative and criminal courts if their (financial or other) interests are impaired by a public or private measure. Ultimately, he uses all possible democratic rights to advance the consumer cause.

Internationally, the association works under the umbrella of the International Consumer Research & Testing organization in London and the European Consumer Association in Brussels, among others with the Stiftung Warentest in Berlin and the Association for Consumer Information in Vienna .

The FRC is led by a board of presidents of the sections and the standing commissions. It has a secretariat in Lausanne and is divided into six cantonal sections, corresponding to the cantons of Geneva , Vaud , Neuchâtel , Valais , Friborg and Jura . Mathieu Fleury has been managing director since 2008.

history

  • 1959: Foundation of the Commission romande des consommatrices (CRC)
  • 1960: The CRC requires that the weight of the food be indicated on the packaging
  • 1964: The Commission becomes the Fédération romande des consommatrices . The first tests are carried out
  • 1966: J'Achète mieux magazine appears for the first time
  • 1967: The butter strike is the FRC's first call for a boycott. After a rise in the price of butter decided by the Federal Council, the FRC is calling for a boycott that is being followed across the country
  • 1972: Another boycott is made for ham and sausage
  • 1978: Start of an initiative for partial price monitoring, which is finally introduced in 1991
  • 1991: The price supervisor (French: "Monsieur Prix") starts work
  • 1996: The Fédération romande des consommatrices becomes the Fédération romande des consommateurs
  • 2007: The association's statutes are revised and J'Achète mieux becomes FRC Magazine
  • 2009: This year the association creates a platform for CS customers who were victims of the collapse of Lehman Brothers. He succeeds in ensuring that the small savers who have suffered damage receive compensation of CHF 50 million
  • 2010: The FRC and its sister associations of the German-speaking Switzerland Foundation for Consumer Protection SKS and the Ticino Associazione consumatrici et consumatori della Svizzera italiana ACSI found the alliance of consumer protection organizations
  • 2012: FRC Magazine becomes  FRC Mieux choisir .
