Retaliation at the Wichita Pass (original title: Gli eroi di Fort Worth ) is an Italian-Spanish western by Alberto de Martino. The German-language premiere of the film was on May 21, 1965.
action
In 1863, towards the end of the civil war, a group of soldiers from the South tries to get to Mexico with the help of an Indian tribe in order to get support from Emperor Maximilian . On their way, the soldiers have to cross a narrow pass near the Texas border held by Union troops from Fort Worth. The southerners draft a plan with Chief Wild Horse: The Indians are to attack the nearby town of Chesapeake, whereupon with the intervention of the Union soldiers, their fort is likely to be poorly equipped and to be captured by the southerners. Archie Patterson, who is now only a civilian, needs some time to explain the connections to his former superiors. When it is carried out, the southerners are provided by the Seventh Cavalry, which can just prevent a massacre.
criticism
“The antiquated image of a heroic soldier showing the Indians where the White House left the hole is difficult to reconcile with efforts to be serious. (...) The later westerns by Alberto (de Martino) are truly more successful. "
"Quite a weak, involuntarily funny western."
Remarks
The Spanish title is Septimo de caballería .
Many of those involved in the film were given anglicized pseudonyms.
