Veronika Martinek (born April 3, 1972 in Ústí nad Labem , Czechoslovakia ) is a former German tennis player .

Career

Veronika Martinek came to Germany with her parents and brother in 1980. She began her professional career in 1987 at the age of 15. On March 25, 1991 she reached her best position in the single world rankings with position 49 , while she booked the highest classification in the double evaluation on September 12, 1994 with position 117. In April 1992 she caused a surprise by defeating Jennifer Capriati at the WTA tournament in Hilton Head Island . At the French Open in 1995 she achieved her best result in a Grand Slam tournament by reaching the third round . On the WTA Tour she won a single and double title.
