The city of Römhild and four municipalities had come together in the administrative community of Gleichberge from the Hildburghausen district of Thuringia to handle their administrative business. It was between the cities of Hildburghausen and Mellrichstadt .

The seat of the administrative community was Römhild .

The administrative community was founded on March 11, 1991. On December 31, 2012, the municipalities merged with the city of Römhild and the unified municipality of Gleichamberg to form the new city of Römhild.
