Location of Gleichamberg in Thuringia |
Gleichamberg is a district of the town of Römhild in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .
dialect
The village of Gleichamberg and the city of Schleusingen form a language border for East Franconian dialects . In Gleichamberg, Hennebergisch from the northwest, Itzgründisch from the southeast and Grabfeldisch from the southwest meet. Therefore, parts of these three dialects can be found in the Gleichamberger dialect.
history
The place was first mentioned in the documents in 1100 as a settlement under the name "Glychon". In the following years the settlement split into "Glychin am Berg" (today's Gleichamberg) and "Glychon an der Wysen" (today's Gleicherwiesen). Gleichamberg is located on the southeast slope of the Großer Gleichberg , two kilometers from the Bavarian border.
On March 23, 1993, the large community of Gleichamberg was created by amalgamating the previously independent communities of Bedheim, Eicha, Gleichamberg, Gleicherwiesen, Roth (near Hildburghausen), Simmershausen and Zeilfeld. After this amalgamation, the following places belonged to the municipality of Gleichamberg:
Gleichamberg merged on December 31, 2012 with the city of Römhild and other communities from the Gleichberge administrative community to form the new city of Römhild.

Buildings
The Protestant Church of St. Nikolaus is a choir tower church, which is essentially medieval, on a fortified churchyard with a uniform baroque interior that is well worth seeing.
After the First World War , a memorial with a steel helmet lying on a wall was erected at the entrance to the forest to commemorate the fallen. The names of the fallen soldiers were posted on the wall. It was partially destroyed during the Second World War and then rebuilt. The names of those killed in World War II were also placed on memorial plaques.
Begun in 2005 and inaugurated on June 11, 2006, the natural stage, which was built as part of a project in which American young people also took part. It was built on the remains of the former basalt works that were shut down in the early 1980s and demolished down to the ground floor in the 1990s.

The gymnastics and sports club in Gleichamberg has its own club house between the former school and the sports field.

Economy and Infrastructure
In 1897 a basalt quarry was opened on the Großer Gleichberg . A cable car transported the rock to the crusher plant in Gleichamberg. From here, from 1908 onwards, it was transported on a works railway to Simmershausen , where the basalt gravel was transferred to the freight wagons on the railway line to Hildburghausen until 1946 . In 1981 the quarry was closed. The basalt works employed up to 140 workers in 1927.

After the fall of the Wall, ELBA office systems was the first to set up a branch in Gleichamberg in 1992. Today it is the company's center for cardboard products. This was followed by companies such as the Heym weapons factory , which specializes in hand-made hunting weapons .
