Eicha is a district of the city of Römhild in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

geography

Eicha is located about 2500 m southwest of Gleichamberg and about 1650 m from the former inner-German border with Bavaria. The built-up area of the village is about 1.68 km². The closest places are Breitensee (OT von Herbstadt ) in the northwest, Hindfeld (district of Milz ) in the north, Linden (district of Straufhain ) in the east and Trappstadt in the south. The highest elevations in the area are the Büchelhag ( 346  m above sea level ) and the entrance mountains ( 317  m above sea level ). The L 1131 leads through the place, which has the shape of a street village , from Trappstadt (there still Bavarian state road St 2283 ) to Milz, from which the L 2671 branches off to Linden in the center of the village.

history

In 1185 the place was mentioned for the first time under the name "Eichs". The Antoniuskapelle was founded in the 13th century. At that time it was a branch of the Antonius Monastery in Würzburg . In 1411 it was handed over to the Antonius Monastery in Isenheim by the Count of Henneberg . In 1453 it was elevated to a monastery parish, which in 1497 received papal approbation. The current church stands on the site of the former parish.

During the GDR era, the village was in the restricted area at that time because of its close proximity to the Bavarian border . After the reunification , the village was an independent municipality until March 22, 1993. The next day the village became part of the community of Gleichamberg . In the central part of Eicha, around the Anger , there are numerous half-timbered houses . The village is a sight and is a listed building .
