Model history

Vespa LX 50 fittings

The Vespa LX was introduced at the end of 2004 as the successor to the Vespa ET and was available from 2005 with a 50 cm³ two-stroke engine, a 125 cm³ four-stroke engine and a 150 cm³ four-stroke engine. In Italy there was also a 50 cc four-stroke engine with two valves in the program. Technically, the Vespa LX is based on the Vespa ET, from which it took over the engines.

Facelift

As part of the facelift, a 50 cc four-valve four-stroke engine has also been available since 2008 and since 2010 the 125 cc and 150 cc four-stroke engine with gasoline injection. All models have a self-supporting body made of sheet steel, an air-cooled single-cylinder engine and a variomatic transmission. Due to the short wheelbase, the Vespa LX is very manoeuvrable and is particularly suitable for city and short-distance traffic. The storage compartment under the bench and the compartment in the leg shield make it suitable for everyday use.

As part of further measures, the Vespa LX received some optical elements from the Vespa GTS in 2010, such as the fin on the front fender or the chrome-plated inlet on the leg shield. At the same time, the two larger-displacement engines were equipped with electronic fuel injection, which reduced fuel consumption somewhat.

Since summer 2012, the newly developed 3-valve engine has also been offered in the Vespa LX, which was presented at the same time as Vespa Quarantasei at the end of 2011 and is also installed in the Vespa LX produced in India. This engine uses around 30% less fuel with a slightly higher output and has longer maintenance intervals. In addition, the variator has been revised.

Vespa S

As a sporty offshoot of the Vespa LX, the Vespa S was presented in 2009. The Vespa S has the same technology as the Vespa LX and only differs optically in a few details: a square headlight, a sports seat, other mirrors, a retro dashboard and raised plastic panels give it a sporty touch. The Vespa S also benefits technically from the facelift on the Vespa LX.

successor

In autumn 2013 the Vespa LX was replaced by the Vespa Primavera , which is based on the Vespa LX and also takes over the engines of the Vespa LX. The Vespa S was also replaced by the Vespa Sprint, which is a visually slightly modified Vespa Primavera.

Special models

Vespa LXV 125

The abbreviation LX stands for 60 in the Roman number system : In 2006 Piaggio celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Vespa. In 2006, the anniversary model, the Vespa LXV, was presented, which is reminiscent of the first vehicles of the Vespa brand with a chrome-plated handlebar, classic fittings and a leather bench - the V stands for vintage. Technically it is identical to the Vespa LX. Special models with special equipment or paintwork are also released every year: the Vespa LX 125 Touring has two chrome-plated luggage racks and a mini windshield, the Vespa LX 50 Pink Chic has a pink metallic paint and the Vespa S 50 College has a two-color Painting. Also of the Vespa S there is the special model Vespa S Sport with side sports stripes, chrome parts, a decorative seam on the ribbed seat and a red shock absorber on the front wheel swing arm .
