The Vespa Rally 180 (type designation: VSD1T ) is a motor scooter of the Vespa series by Piaggio , which was manufactured and sold from 1968 to 1973.
Model description
The Vespa Rally 180 followed the Vespa 180 Super Sport as the most powerful Vespa in the production program and is the first large Vespa model with the rotary valve control, which was previously only used in smaller models, instead of direct suction. The single - cylinder two-stroke engine (bore 63.5 mm, stroke 57 mm, compression ratio 1: 8) type VSD1M has an output of 10.3 hp at 5700 rpm. The manual four-speed gearbox transfers the power directly to the rear wheel. The tank holds 8.2 liters, of which 1.8 liters reserve.
The frame and cladding adopted from the previous model, the Vespa 180 Super Sport, were supplemented by elements from the Vespa 150 Sprint and again had round headlights. Typical of the model are the black painted front shock absorber spring and the Vespa lettering with the addition of “Rally” on the leg shield. The Italian model had no direction indicators , the German model was with Hella - handlebar end blinkers fitted. The handlebars are 675 mm wide without direction indicators and 690 mm with direction indicators.
The model was followed in 1972 by the somewhat more powerful Vespa Rally 200 with electronic ignition .
