The VfL Benrath 06 e. V. is a sports club from Düsseldorf-Benrath .
history
The club was founded in 1906 in the then still independent Benrath south of Düsseldorf and played in the two highest German football leagues in the 1930s and 1940s. From 1930 to 1935 VfL Benrath took part in the final round of the German championship five times. On May 18, 1930, VfL met the West German runner-up in the round of 16 of the German championship in Frankfurt against the local Eintracht. The game was just won 1-0 by the square eleven. In 1932 Benrath failed in the round of 16 with 1: 3 at Hamburger SV . In the same year, VfL prevailed in the West German Association Cup against SC 07 Bad Neuenahr , Arminia Bielefeld and Rheydter SV and won the West German Cup title. The title was defended in the following year . In the Gauliga Niederrhein , founded in 1933 , the people of South Düsseldorf were initially able to maintain their leading role in Lower Rhine football. In 1934 and 1935 , Benrath won the championship before city rivals Fortuna Düsseldorf . In the final round of the German championship in 1934 , VfL just had to let FC Schalke 04 go first. At the finals in 1935 , Benrath was the sovereign group winner and lost in the semi-finals in Leipzig 2-4 against VfB Stuttgart . This also marked the greatest success in the club's history and the last appearance of the Benrather in the final round of the German championship.
In 1939 the Benrather descended from the Gauliga; In 1941 they were promoted again and VfL was able to stay in the lower half of the class until the war-related abandonment of game operations at the beginning of the 1944/45 season. In the 1930s, the club produced several national players. In the 9-1 victory in qualifying for the 1934 World Cup against Luxembourg, the two Benraths Karl Hohmann and Josef Rasselnberg together scored seven goals. On April 1, 2006, VfL celebrated its 100th anniversary with a friendly against Fortuna Düsseldorf . VfL Benrath was strengthened by players from TSV Urdenbach . The mixed team lost 1: 5.
After relegation from the Niederrhein district league in 2006, the club played in the district soccer league for three years, and in summer 2009 the championship and the associated promotion to the district league were celebrated. After only three years, another championship title followed in 2012 and promotion to the Lower Rhine regional league . In the 2016/17 season, VfL managed to stay relegated through relegation, in which six regional division and two national division took part. A year later, the team rose from bottom of the table.
The VfL Benrath stadium, the district sports facility on Karl-Hohmann- Strasse, has a capacity of around 7,000 spectators.
