In an official report in the summer of 1931, the association informed its participants that an association cup was being held for the first time. VfL Benrath 06 won the cup final with a 3-2 home win over the Rheydter Spielverein . All WSV clubs that registered for the cup by July 31, 1931 were qualified to host the Association Cup. The trophy was divided into three different phases, the preliminary round, the intermediate round and the final round. The preliminary and intermediate rounds were held in regional districts. Clubs from the Gau classes and the 2nd district classes first played 7-10 participants in the preliminary round for the intermediate round. There they met the participants from the 1st district classes and the district leagues and the district participant for the final round was determined. In the final round, the winners of the eight districts met and played the cup winners. The cup winner was qualified for the finals of the German soccer championship.

The West German Association Cup was held in the knockout system . If a game was tied after 90 minutes, there was 2 times 15-minute extra time , but this was ended as soon as the next goal was scored ( golden goal ). If there was no winner after the extension, the decision was made by lot. The preliminary rounds were held in August and September 1931, the intermediate rounds were held between November 1931 and February 1932. The final round was played in March and April 1932.
