Product overview

Via primarily develops and operates passenger transport services and the associated IT systems, which mainly focus on shared journeys ( ridepooling ). The systems are also known as microtransit (small-scale public transport). Passengers who want to go in the same direction are booked into a shared vehicle by an algorithm . Passengers must go to a point specified in the app to board. The journeys begin and end at intersections or other, sometimes virtual, stops . In some cities, Via's ride pooling system is also used as a feeder to public transport . Door-to-door trips are also offered in individual cities.

Via operates as a single service provider in six cities around the world, so it operates the entire vehicle fleet there on its own. This includes the city of Arlington, Texas , where Via is the only public transport provider. In the other cities in which Via operates, it has a partnership with a local transport company or authority, university , taxi company or other private organization. Via licenses its technology as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) or Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS).

Via's technology is also used outside of public transport, for example in school bus traffic in New York or in visiting traffic at the BASF plant in Ludwigshafen .

ViaVan in Europe

ViaVan was founded in 2017 as a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz Vans and Via to offer ride pooling services in Europe, among other things. The company started operations in March 2018 with a transport offer in Amsterdam . In Germany, in September 2018 in cooperation with the Berlin transport the offer BerlKönig started. ViaVan's technology is also used for ridepooling services in other German cities, such as in a service offered by Stadtverkehr Lübeck .
