Via Sacra (Zittau border triangle)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Via Sacra is a touristic route that runs along old trade routes in the triangle " Germany - Poland - Czech Republic ", which includes 16 stations with religious and art-historical important cultural monuments in the Neisse Euroregion . On German and Lower Silesian territory, the route is partly identical to the historic Via Regia and the Way of St. James .

The offer is under the heading "Travel without borders. Through centuries. To reflection." and thus alludes to three important aspects: First, the spatial connection of places that belonged closer together in history than today's borders suggest (Silesia and Lusatia as neighboring countries of the Bohemian Crown); secondly, the tolerant coexistence of different cultures and religions that has existed over a long period of time (especially in Upper Lusatia); Thirdly, the reflection not only on the values of the first two points, but also on a wider horizon as a contrast to our short-sighted, fast-moving present and the introduction of this attitude into a common future.

One of the initiators of this tourist route is Volker Dudeck, former director of the Zittau Municipal Museums. The project was funded by the European Union Interreg III A ( ERDF ).
