Victor Arnold

Victor Arnold (born October 9, 1873 in Vienna , † September 16, 1914 near Dresden ) was an Austrian actor on German stages.

Victor Arnold came from a Jewish family. Arnold initially worked at the Residenztheater in Munich . From 1902 he belonged to the Max Reinhardts ensemble in Berlin .

He was praised as a great comedian by Alfred Kerr and Siegfried Jacobsohn . His roles included Flaut / Thisbe in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (1905), Polonius in his Hamlet (1913), Hausknecht in the world premiere of Hofmannsthal's Cristina's Journey Home (1910), Just in Lessing's Minna von Barnhelm (1911), Androclus in Shaw's Androclus and the lion (1912) and cloud in the world premiere of Sternheim's Bürger Schippel (1913).

Arnold was particularly successful in plays by Molière , including as Sganarelle in The Doctor Against Will and in the title role of George Dandin . He died by suicide in a sanatorium out of desperation over the war.
