Victor von Lepel

Victor Freiherr von Lepel (born April 4, 1863 in Darmstadt , † May 19, 1918 in Molodetschno ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Victor belonged to the Mecklenburg tribe of the von Lepel family . He was the only son of the Prussian Colonel Wilhelm von Lepel (1833–1895) and his wife Elisabeth, née von Kopp (1839–1896).

After attending grammar schools in Verden and Kassel , Lepel joined the Rhenish Dragoon Regiment No. 5 in Hofgeismar in 1881 . In 1883 he became second lieutenant , in 1905 he joined the adjutantage of the I. Army Corps in Königsberg as a major . In 1908 he was transferred back to Hesse and in 1911 Lepel was appointed commander of the Hussar Regiment "Graf Goetzen" (2nd Silesian) No. 6 in Leobschütz . In 1912 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in 1914 to colonel and commander of the 12th Cavalry Brigade in Neisse . During the First World War , Lepel was promoted to major general in 1916. Two years later he fell in Russia and was buried in the Kurhessischen military cemetery in Kassel .

Lepel was a knight of honor of the Order of St. John .

He was married to Sophie von Baumbach (1868–1945) since 1899 . His son Gunther was a film producer in the thirties of the twentieth century.
