Viktor Corzilius

Viktor Corzilius (also: Victor Corzilius; born December 3, 1895 in Ransbach , † November 1, 1968 in Fulda ) was the artist name of the German composer and writer Walter Maria Espe .

Live and act

Corzilius was born Walter Maria Espe on December 3, 1895 in Ransbach in the Westerwald . "Corzilius" is the Latinized form of the name "Espe". This is how he called himself as a composer, while he used his real name as a writer. Corzilius wrote music for the stage, sound film, dance and song hits. Hans Planter composed the lyrics to many of his pieces of music. Rudolf Perak and Rudolf Presber were also among his librettists . He was also active as a crime writer and brought out the "crime comedy in 6 pictures" in 1932, the Grootmann case and in 1933 the crime play The black lily . The Grootmann casewas filmed in America in 1933 by William Beaudine under the title The Crime of the Century as a mystery thriller. After the seizure of power of the Nazis , he was an employee of the Gaupropagandaarchivs Berlin. Under his real name Walter M. Espe he wrote the book of the NSDAP about "Becoming, Struggle and Goal of the NSDAP", which was published in Berlin in 1933 by G. Schönfeld. However, it displeased the party leaders and landed on the "list of harmful and undesirable literature" in 1938.

Together with the actor and author Robert Dorsay he wrote the great revue operetta Today I'm in Love , which premiered in 1937 in the Admiralspalast in Berlin. Dorsay was later denounced for telling political jokes and executed in 1943 in Berlin-Plötzensee prison.

In 1940 the film director and screenwriter Karl Georg Külb published the “Comedy in 3 Acts after e. Idea v. Walter Maria Espe “ Love has to be learned .

After the Second World War, the play by Will Kaufmann and Walter Maria Espe was followed by the feature film Egon the Womanizer , in which Theo Lingen played a double role.

Walter Maria Espe died on November 1st, 1968 in Fulda .
