Vila Nova da Barca is a locality and former municipality in central Portugal .

history

The village probably goes back to the time after the Reconquista . A ferry boat (port. Barca ) was first mentioned in 1194 , which crossed the nearby Mondego here . A document from 1258 already mentioned a village with a number of permanent settlers. Later on, Vila Nova da Barca became its own municipality. In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 , Vila Nova da Barca briefly became a separate district until it was dissolved again in 1844 and joined the district of Verride . After its dissolution, Vila Nova da Barca was incorporated into the district of Montemor-o-Velho in 1854.

Vila Nova da Barca remained its own municipality until it was dissolved in the course of municipal reorganization in 2013 and merged with Verride and Abrunheira .

In the course of the municipal reorganization of Portugal after the local elections on September 29, 2013, the municipality was merged with Verride and Abrunheira to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Abrunheira, Verride e Vila Nova da Barca . The municipal administration in Vila Nova da Barca was retained as a local citizens' office.

Vila Nova da Barca has a connection to the Ramal de Alfarelos railway line via the Marujal stop .

The national road N341 crosses the town and connects to the A17 motorway, which runs about 10 km to the west . East the N341 reached after about 5 km Alfarelos where a connection to the railway Linha do Norte and with the national road N347 also a connection to the about 4 km north extending A14 and further km to the total of 6.5 remote district town Montemor-o- Velho is made.
