Villa Mar (also: Villamar Mallcu ) is a town in the Potosí Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Villa Mar is the second largest town in the canton of Soniquera in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Colcha "K" in the province of Nor Lípez . The village is located at an altitude of 4021  m on the right southern bank of the Rio Mallcu, which flows here in a south-easterly direction and flows nine kilometers downstream into the Río Quetena , which flows over the Río Grande de Lípez to the Salar de Uyuni .

Villa Mar is located in the southern part of the Bolivian Altiplano on the northwestern edge of the Cordillera de Lípez . The region has a distinct daytime climate, with mean temperatures fluctuating more strongly during the day than during the year.

South of Uyuni, a partially unpaved road (status 2014) continues in a south-westerly direction via San Cristóbal and reaches Alota after 145 kilometers . Two kilometers behind Alota, a road branches off to the north to the provincial capital of San Agustín , to the south a road crosses the Río Alota and continues via Villa Mar and a road bridge over the Río Quetena to Soniquera .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Colcha "K" 90 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
