Villa Martha (Dresden)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Villa Martha is a representative villa in the style of the Italian neo-renaissance in the Dresden district Leipziger Vorstadt (statistical district Pieschen-Süd ), at Leipziger Strasse  43. It was built in 1871/1872 by the Lößnitz master builders, the Ziller brothers, for the chamber musician Alexander Richter who lived on the ground floor . The formation of the facades is reminiscent of the Dresden master builder Gottfried Semper and creates a “palace-like effect” in this design.

Villa Martha

description

The villa , which is listed as a historical monument , was erected in 1871/1872 in the rural suburb of Leipzig on the side of Leipziger Straße facing the Elbe as a free-standing building.

The two-story building stands on a rectangular sandstone base with a rather squat ground floor on top. The upper floor is laid out as a bel étage, above which there is a knee- stick structured by triglyphs . The building is closed by a hipped roof. The building has a size of six to four symmetrical window axes, whereby in the side view of the four axes only the two middle ones are represented by windows. In the right side view, the rear window is designed as a door that is accessed via a small flight of stairs with a railing. In the rear view, the symmetry is dissolved mainly by the entrance door on the left into a stairwell, the windows of which are offset from the others.

The colored, plastered facade surfaces are richly structured and decorated by pilasters or corner blocks. In the main view the four middle windows and in the side view the two windows in the middle are each emphasized as a flat risalit . The base, belt and parapet on the upper floor as well as the knee floor are structured by cornices .

While all the other windows are rectangular, the windows on the bel étage combined in the respective risalits are designed as arched windows with keystones . They are framed by plinths and pilasters with fluting and capitals with volutes . Some of the parapets show small balustrades from terracotta . The two outer windows upstairs have also balustrades and just Verdachungen obendrüber that with consoles and acroteria decorated.

The enclosure consists of iron mesh fence panels between sandstone pillars.
