Villa Scirca is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of the Italian municipality of Sigillo in the province of Perugia , Umbria region .

geography

The place is 2 km northwest of the main town Sigillo and 38 km northeast of the provincial and regional capital Perugia . The place is at 505  m slm and had about 100 inhabitants in 2001. In 2011 there were 109 inhabitants. It is located at the foot of the Monte Cucco mountain ( 1566  m slm ) and on the historic Via Flaminia and today's Strada Statale 3 Via Flaminia . In the north, the place borders directly on the municipality of Costacciaro , the part of Scirca located here has 15 inhabitants.

Attractions

  • Santa Maria Assunta (also called Santuario della Madonna Assunta in Cielo and Santa Maria di Montecupo ), church in the center of the diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino . The church was built in the 13th century and was first mentioned in the statute of Sigillo in 1330. It belonged to the Abbey of Santa Maria di Sitria near Isola Fossara (district of Scheggia e Pascelupo ), the campanile is dated to the year 1250. During the Napoleonic period , the church of Scirca was subordinated to the Camaldolese of Fonte Avellana and acquired by the Italian state in 1860. Contains frescoes by Matteo da Gualdo (among others: Madonna del Gonfalone , Sant'Anna , Madonna in trono con Gesù Bambino ).
  • Ponte Etrusco (also called Ponte dei Pietroni ), Roman bridge and today's ruins on the Via Flaminia. It originated in the 3rd century and was 34 meters long and 9.5 meters high. The name comes from the earlier view that the bridge was built in the time of the Etruscans . The state you can see today came about on July 13, 1944, when German troops blew up the bridge.
  • Sorgenti della Scirca , spring on the western side of Mount Cucco that feeds seven aqueducts , including those of Perugia , Sigillo and Costacciaro. The aqueduct to Perugia was built in the 1930s at the will of the city of Perugia, is approx. 45 km long and ends at the city gate Porta Sant'Angelo.
