Richard Murphy (rower)

Richard "Dick" Frederick Murphy (born November 14, 1931 in New Jersey ) is a former American rower .

Richard Murphy was a cadet at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis and a member of the academy's eighth . This eight was nominated for the 1952 Olympic Games . In Helsinki, the US eight reached the final undefeated, where he won with over five seconds ahead of the Soviet and Australian boats. It was the seventh consecutive Olympic victory for the American eighth since 1920.

In 1954, Richard Murphy graduated from Annapolis. After the end of his service, he retired as a lieutenant from the United States Navy .
