Vince Flynn (born April 6, 1966 in Saint Paul , Minnesota , † June 19, 2013 there ) was an American writer of political thrillers .

He became famous mainly for his series of thrillers around CIA agent Mitch Rapp .

Life

Flynn was a graduate of St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights and the University of St. Thomas .

He then worked as a sales marketing specialist at Kraft Foods . In 1990 he left Kraft because he wanted to become a fighter pilot with the United States Marine Corps . However, one week before the start of the course, he was retired for medical reasons. For two years he tried to be hired, but without success. During those two years Flynn read everything he could get his hands on, including works by Hemingway , Ludlum , Clancy , Tolkien and Vidal . Most of all, however, he liked reading spy novels . During the 1990s he worked as a bartender at Tiff's, Plums and O'Gara's bars in St. Paul, during which time he wrote his first novel, Term Limits , which was published in 1998. He later worked in Hollywood as a consultant on the television series 24 .

In 2011 Flynn was diagnosed with prostate cancer, from the consequences of which he died in June 2013.

Flynn lived in Minneapolis , Minnesota with his wife, Lysa, their two daughters, Ingrid and Ana, and their stepson Dane .

Posthumously, American Assassin, the film adaptation of his novel of the same name , was released in 2017 .
