Virgin Mountain (Original title: Fúsi ) is an Icelandic film directed by Dagur Kári .

Its premiere was on February 9, 2015 at the Berlin International Film Festival 2015 in the “Berlinale Special” section. The German theatrical release was on November 12, 2015.

action

The 43-year-old Icelander Fúsi is overweight and lives at home with his mother. He has never had a girlfriend. It is therefore called "Virgin Mountain" by evil tongues (English for "virgin mountain"). The life of the good-natured loner is characterized by routine: during the day he works as a baggage handler at the airport, at night he recreates battles of the Second World War with small tank models and figures.

When Fúsi receives a dance voucher, his everyday life gets out of rhythm. He goes back to people, which is not easy for him at first. He feels drawn to the happy Sjöfn. A tender love relationship develops, which is a big step for Fúsi.

criticism

The film service judged that the "slow, in spite of its dry humor rather sad and elegiac film tells the developmental drama of a not yet grown man with great intensity, whereby the staging cleverly subverts stereotypical images and stories and grants its corpulent antihero a gentle change".

Awards

The film received the silver pyramid for best director and a nomination for best film at the Cairo International Film Festival 2015. At CPH PIX 2015 ( Copenhagen International Film Festival ) he won the Politiken's Audience Award; he also won the Nordic Council Film Prize 2015. At the Tribeca Film Festival in 2015 was awarded Virgin Mountain three awards (Best Actor, Best Picture and Best Screenplay).
