Virgin Samoa , until December 7, 2011 Polynesian Blue , was a New Zealand virtual airline based in Christchurch . It marketed international scheduled flights departing from Faleolo Airport ( Samoa ) , which were operated by Virgin Australia Airlines in its branding .
history
After months of negotiations, the Australian Virgin Blue Airlines and the Samoas government signed a joint venture agreement in 2005 to establish a virtual company called Polynesian Blue , which came into being on October 30, 2005. The virtual company used a Boeing 737-800 from New Zealand's Pacific Blue Airlines in wet lease and took over most of the international routes of Polynesian Airlines , which only served connections from Samoa to American Samoa, Fiji and Tonga.
At the end of 2011, the virtual company was renamed Virgin Samoa as part of a restructuring of Virgin Australia Holding . Virgin Australia Airlines then carried out the flights of the virtual company . Operations ended on November 12, 2017.
Virgin Samoa was 49% owned by the Samoan government and Virgin Australia Holding ; the remaining two percent was owned by Aggie Grey's Resorts and Hotels .
