history

A Boeing 767 of Virgin Nigeria Airways

The company was founded in 2004 as the successor to Nigeria Airways by the Nigerian state and the British airline Virgin Atlantic under the name Virgin Nigeria . 51% of the shares were in the hands of Nigerian investors, while the Virgin Group, as the parent company of Virgin Atlantic, held 49% of the shares.

The last long-haul flights to Johannesburg and London took place at the end of January 2009 and were then discontinued.

Between September 2009 and June 2010 the airline was renamed Nigerian Eagle Airlines as part of a realignment , before it was finally given its last name by a new investor.

In September 2012, Air Nigeria ceased flight operations for economic and personnel reasons. The Nigerian aviation authority had already severely restricted the company's operations in June.

Destinations

In addition to several domestic destinations such as Abuja and Port Harcourt , Air Nigeria recently offered international flights to other West and Central African destinations, including Accra and Libreville and London as long-haul flights.
