Green Africa Airways is a Nigerian airline that has been developing since 2016 and is based in Lagos .
history
Green Africa Airways was founded in 2016 and initially wants to cover the national low-cost flight market. Flight operations are scheduled to begin in 2020. The development of the airline takes place with the support of the former CEO of American Airlines , Tom Horton , among others .
In mid-2018, the airline had received the necessary licenses from the Nigerian authorities.
At the end of 2018, Green Africa announced a letter of intent to purchase 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8s . An option for a further 50 aircraft of the type was also signed. It was the largest order ever from Africa for Boeing aircraft . The list price was 11.7 billion US dollars .
This declaration of intent was withdrawn in February 2020; Instead, they ordered 50 A220-300 from Airbus . This is also the largest order from Airbus from Africa.
