Vitre is a village in the French department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The previously independent municipality was merged with Beaussais to form Commune nouvelle Beaussais-Vitré with effect from January 1, 2013 . Since then it has had the status of a commune déléguée with 536 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). Neighboring towns are Prailles in the north, La Couarde in the northeast, Beaussais in the east, Celles-sur-Belle in the south and Thorigné in the west.
