Vladimir Karparov

Vladimir Karparov (born January 6, 1977 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian jazz musician ( saxophone , composition) who deals with the folk music of Bulgaria.

Live and act

Karporov started playing the saxophone when he was 13. He first played in a wind orchestra; He played jazz for the first time as a street musician . From 1995 to 1999 he studied at the National Music Academy in Sofia, focusing on jazz and pop music . He continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin , where he graduated in 2005.

Karparov initially belonged to Wikeda and Zone C , in Germany to For Free Hands and the Interzone Jazz Orchestra , with whom he also recorded. He played with Theodosii Spassov , Jiggs Whigham , Milcho Leviev , Gerard Presencer , Okay Temiz , John Hollenbeck , Gebhard Ullmann ( Ta Lam 11 ), Peter Herbolzheimer , Martin Lubenov , Stoyan Yankoulov , TrioRio and the Fanfara Kalashnikov . In 2008 he released his debut album under his own name, Thracian Dance , in which Christian von der Goltz , Horst Nonnenmacher and Dimitris Christides are involved alongside a few guests. He also founded the Forkolor Saxophone Quartet , with which he also published. Furthermore composed for the Metropole Orkest ( project Apollon ). He can also be heard on albums by Uwe Kropinski ( Elf Elfen Blues ), Shantel and Leon Gurvitch .

Prizes and awards

Karparov was named the best young jazz musician of the year in Bulgaria in 1996. In 1999 he received the third prize at the International Jazz Competition in Monaco. In 2000 he received the Medica pro Musica award in Düsseldorf.
