Fanfara Kalashnikov is a nine- piece brass band from Berlin. The group stands in the tradition of those high-speed brass bands that play at weddings and village festivals in the Balkan countries and have increasingly found their way into western pop culture since the 1990s.
music
The members of Fanfara Kalashnikov belong to the younger generation of this genre. They come from Romania, Ukraine, Greece and Germany. There are also guest artists from Bulgaria, Italy, Serbia and Latin America. Their music is influenced and integrated by jazz , rock , funk and electronic music . a. Elements of ska , flamenco , raggamuffin and Siberian shaman singing.
history
Fanfara Kalashnikov was founded in 2000 by a group of young musicians in Iași , Romania. The band name is inspired by Goran Bregović 's song of the same name from the film " Underground ". In 2002 the musicians recorded their debut album "Fanfara Kalashnikov" for the Roton label, and in 2003 they presented their program for the first time at an international festival in France.
At the end of 2006 five of the musicians moved to Berlin. In April 2007 the group performed for the first time at a festival in Germany as part of the Celle Jazz Street Parade. In the summer of 2007, the Romanian-born R'n'B singer Miss Platnum engaged Fanfara Kalashnikov as a backing band for her music video Come Marry Me , together with Peter Fox , and her appearances in the support program for Seeed in Berlin's Wuhlheide .
Tours
Between spring 2007 and 2015 Fanfara Kalashnikov had around 400 gigs in nine European countries, including a. at the Kassel documenta (2007), the Berlin International Film Festival , at Radio Multikulti , Funkhaus Europa , the “ Theater der Welt ” festival in Halle (2008), the Jazzfest Gronau , Dranouter Folk Festival, Przystanek Woodstock , in the late night Show " Inas Nacht ", at the Cité Rêvée (2009), the Wacken Open Air , Fusion Festival (2010), in the Essen Philharmonic (2011), on the Melt ! Festival (2011, 2012), the citizens' festival of the Federal President and as part of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival (2013).
Projects and publications
Fanfara Kalashnikov's fame is based on her collaboration with groups such as Panda (single and video "Women and Men") in addition to live performances, including joint performances with singer Pat Appleton , Rupa & the April Fishes and the dancehall duo Mono & Nikitaman , 2007), 2raumwohnung (single "We'll see", 2009) and Beats Antique (album "Contraption", 2009) and artists like Vic Ruggiero (album "Something In My Blindspot", 2008) or Dota ("Im Glashaus", on Berlin Global 2010/11 ).
In 2009 Fanfara Kalashnikov was part of Arto Lindsay's "Penny Parade" on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the House of World Cultures . In 2010 the group developed a program with classics from rock history for the Wacken Open Air . In 2011 and 2012 she played the final concert of the Melt ! On a party truck, accompanied by samba drummers . Festivals. In 2012, her career was documented as part of the "City of Diversity" exhibition on the occasion of the 775th anniversary of the city on Berlin's Schloßplatz . In 2014 the band appeared in the music video "Around the World in the Key of G" produced by HEINEKEN and as part of the ARTE special of "Through the night with ..." on the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall together with the British Author Ken Follett and the former Hungarian Prime Minister Miklós Németh .
