The location of Sonnenberg in the Schrödersbusch residential area in the Vohwinkel district of Wuppertal goes back to an old farm name.

The place is located west of a wooded ridge on the southern edge of the Vohwinkeler depression .The forest near Sonnenberg is also known as the Vohwinkler Stadtwald . Neighboring locations are Nocken , Schrödersbusch , Boltenheide , Schieten , Dasnöckel , Bies , Bracken and Stackenberg .

Etymology and history

The origin of the name is not clear, Sonnenberg does not necessarily have to be related to the sun, it can also belong to the Middle High German word 'sunt' = south.

The name of the place appears as 'Suneberg' for the first time in 1312. After Heimes, Sonnenberg is first mentioned in 1830.

Sonnenberg belonged to the mayor's office of Sonnborn , separated from Haan in 1867 , which was transferred to the municipality of Vohwinkel in 1888 with loss of territory to Elberfeld .

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province from 1888, a house with twelve inhabitants is given.

At the end of the 1960s the federal highway 46 was built near Sonnenberg , a deep cut into the terrain was created here to reach the valley near Sonnborn.

The street Sonnenberg is named after this location with an unknown date. It also runs as a motorway bridge over the A 46.
