history

Bracken was mentioned in a document on March 6, 1345, then again in 1611. In 1677, for tax reasons, a survey of the Sonnborn community was made. In the register two goods Braacken are recorded with a total area of the equivalent of 36 hectares and 29.7 ares .

On the Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715, both locations are recorded as brackets . The locations are also recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824. Around 1830 the bracken was divided into four estates with five different owners, with the top and bottom brackets totaling 25 hectares and 45.8 acres. The loss of area since 1677 can be explained by splits , such as Kluse , which is a splitting of Oberste Bracken . The small Kotten Im Schlüsselbusch , Hackland , Am Halbenberg and Neue Hickster , all of which were built after 1677, originally belonged to the Oberste Bracken estate .

As of the measuring table sheets from 1968, the locations are no longer labeled. Bracken belonged to the mayor's office of Sonnborn , separated from Haan in 1867 , which was transferred to the municipality of Vohwinkel in 1888, losing territory to Elberfeld .

In the municipality encyclopedia for the province of Rhineland from 1888 four houses with 34 inhabitants are given.

The street Kleinbracken , which branches off from Gräfrather Straße east to Kleinbracken, was named in 1935.
