Roßkamp , sometimes also known as Roßkamper Höhe, is a location in the west of the Bergisch city ​​of Wuppertal .

Location and description

The location is at an altitude of 273  m above sea level. NHN at the intersection between Ehrenhainstrasse and Roßkamper Strasse in the Höhe residential area in the Vohwinkel district . Neighboring locations are Freudenberg , Engelshöhe , Schieten , Halbenberg , Oberbracken , Bies , Nockershäuschen , Dasnöckel and Kluse as well as Piepersberg , Steinbeck and Grünewald in Solingen .

Roßkamp is located on the high altitude where two old streets meet, an old coal road of the so-called Werdensche coal road , which today is Ehrenhainstrasse and Roßkamper Strasse which runs on the watershed. Roßkamp had probably taken his manor name from a field name. Whereby 'Kamp' can be equated with a field, as a horse meadow or horse paddock .

On the Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715, both courses of the old streets are recorded, Roßkamp is not named. For the first time Roßkamp, ​​which is a split with six hectares of Auf der Schieten , appears on the Stamm'schen map from 1768.

The location is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 as 'Roskamp'. Labeled on the map from 1843 as 'Rosskamp' and from 1907 as 'Roßkamp'.

Roßkamp belonged to the mayor's office of Sonnborn , which was separated from Haan in 1867 , and which was transferred to the municipality of Vohwinkel in 1888, losing territory to Elberfeld .

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province from 1888, three houses with 13 inhabitants are given.

The street Roßkamper Straße got its name in 1935.

The historic half-timbered buildings on Roßkamper Straße 126, a popular excursion destination at the turn of the century, were closed in July 2011. It was last operated as a Chinese restaurant until it was empty for a few years.
