Location of Halbenberg in Wuppertal

The location of Halbenberg partly also Am Halben Berg in the Westring residential area in the Wuppertal district of Vohwinkel goes back to an old place name.

etymology

The origin of the name results from the location within the Vohwinkeler Senke , the place is 'halfway up' the way, the later Gräfrather Straße, starting from Kluse . Neighboring locations are: Bracken , Bies , Dasnöckel , Engelshöhe , Freudenberg , Görtscheid , Kirschsiepen , Kluse, Roßkamp , Schlüssel and Simonshaus .

history

Halbenberg is a former Kotten who is split ends from bracken. It is located on a path and is marked on a map from 1824 (by Poysa) and 1843. The place is labeled as Halbenberg on a map from 1892/94. The spelling (of the street) was first changed in 1935 to 'Am Halbenberg', later to 'Am Halben Berg'.

The Protestant elementary school (founded in 1894) and the Catholic elementary school (founded in 1902) were located in this location. At the end of the 19th century a Catholic cemetery was laid out in the area.

Today's street

The road Am Halben Berg was named after this location in 1935 . It branches off north of the village in a westerly direction from Gräfrather Straße, south of the overpass on federal motorway 46 , and leads to Ittertaler Straße. Before 1900 the street was still called Schulstrasse.
