The origin of the name is not certain, the name component 'Kirsch' could be a proper name or from the fruit tree cherry . The part of the name ' Siepen ' means damp lowland or brook valley.

history

The old place name Kirschsiepen was first mentioned in 1677 as an estate with four hectares , consisting of two Kotten.

In the map series Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715, the place is marked with the name 'Kirsieben'. On the map from 1824 the location is labeled as 'Kirschsiepen'. At that time a path (today's Vohwinkeler Straße ) led from the center of Vohwinkel at Kaiserplatz to the west to Simonshaus , Kirchsiepen was south of this path.

At the end of the 19th century, the location was incorporated into the development of Vohwinkeler Straße , it is not known whether the historical building structure has been preserved.

Today's streets

The street Im Kirschsiepen was named after this location in 1935 , previously it was called Emilstraße from October 5, 1899 . It is a cross street from Spitzwegstraße to Rembrandstraße .
