history

Up until the beginning of the 19th century, Görtscheid, a small court, belonged to the Haan supreme court in the Bergisches Amt of Solingen .

In the map series Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715, the place is marked with the name 'Görzhus'. A previous naming as 'Gortzes' and 'Görtshauß' is also mentioned. On the map from 1824, the location is labeled as 'Gortges'. At this time, two roads lead to Görtscheid, one from the south from the key court and from the east from the court Unterste Bracken . Another path leads to the neighboring Simonshaus estate.

In the spelling 'Görtscheid' the location is first indicated on the map from 1843. According to the map, the route to Schlüssel has lost its importance and is replaced by a traffic route to the Engelshöhe estate .

At the end of the 19th century, a few pits in a brickworks were built around Görtscheid, on the map of 1892/94 a pond is shown for the first time at this location. The farm complex belonged to the parish of Haan and came to Vohwinkel in 1894 , which was united with Elberfeld and Barmen to Wuppertal in 1929.

The pond would be abandoned by the late 1960s when a company expanded there. In the early 1971s the court house was razed.

Nowadays there are only buried basement rooms in a small forest near the Görtscheid street. These remains were partially uncovered by a small team led by Robin Kostka, the excavation was stopped due to lack of funds.
