The location of Bies in the residential area of Höhe in the Wuppertal district of Vohwinkel goes back to an old court. Buildings with historical structures still exist on the site.

etymology

The origin of the name Bies or on the Bieß comes from mndd. Bese = bulrush (marsh plant) '.

history

Bies is mentioned in 1356 as up the byse. Already in 1677 two goods of almost the same size appeared, which were split off as 'Vorderste Bies' and 'Hinterste Bies' .

A path, which is marked on the Topographia Ducatus Montani map from 1715 created by Erich Philipp Ploennies , led from the south of Gräfrath via Roßkamp and Dasnöckel to the two estates, both of which are labeled as Biss and are located on both sides of the path. The route continued north via Rottscheidt and Vohwinkel. Bracken is located further south .

Around 1830, the 'Hinterste Bies' was divided into two estates, the buildings of which, however, were close together.

The two half-timbered houses Bies 1 and Bies 2 , the 'Hinterste Bies', are still preserved, they are protected as a monument.
