Volker Baer

Volker Baer (* 1930 in Nuremberg ; † August 4, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German journalist and publicist . His work focused on the areas of culture and film . He wrote film and book reviews , commentaries , glosses and portraits .

Baer has been writing about cinema and film politics since the 1950s. His life's work consists of around seven thousand newspaper and magazine articles. These include “reflections from the eventful years between the construction of the Berlin Wall and its fall, reflections on Eastern European cinema, discussions with film and filmmakers from the Nazi era , meticulous research on the cinema of the Federal Republic and its institutions before and after 1990. […] It became a chronicle cultural and political events into a fascinating compendium of contemporary history. ” As a long-time film critic of the Tagesspiegel , he has observed and accompanied German-German history in the mirror of film productions.

At the cinefest - International Festival of German Film Heritage in 2009, he was awarded the Reinhold Schünzel Prize for his services to German film heritage .
