Volker Canaris

Volker Canaris (born May 22, 1942 in Königsberg ; † May 6, 2012 in Düsseldorf ) was a German dramaturge , theater critic , theater director and film producer .

Live and act

Canaris, son of Constantin Canaris , studied German, history and comparative literature in Munich , Berlin and Bonn . In 1970 he completed his studies with a doctorate.

From 1968 Canaris wrote theater reviews for Theater heute , Der Spiegel and Die Zeit . From 1969 to 1970 he worked as a theater lecturer at Suhrkamp Verlag in Frankfurt am Main . From 1970 to 1979 he worked as a dramaturge in the television drama department at WDR in Cologne . From 1979 to 1985 Canaris was acting director and deputy director at the Schauspielhaus Köln under Jürgen Flimm . From 1986 to 1996 he was general director of the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus .

Canaris died at his home as a result of his second heart attack.
