Volker Fass (born February 6, 1952 in Haitz ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Volker Fass played in the youth department of SV Melitia Roth before moving to Kickers Offenbach . From the youth of the Kickers, Fass made the leap into the professional camp. From the 1973/74 season he was in the squad of the Hungarian coach Gyula Lóránt . On matchday 33, Fass made his Bundesliga debut against Bayern Munich , the champions of the season; his team lost 0-1 in the Olympic Stadium . For the new season 1974/75 Otto Rehhagel took over the coaching position with the Kickers. In Rehhagel's first season, Fass was immediately a regular, in the second season, when things didn't go as planned at the Kickers, Fass was often a reservist. Even the coach change in early 1976, to the Zlatko Čajkovski , could not prevent relegation at the end of the season as the penultimate, so that barrel with the Kickers went into the 2nd division . From then on he played in the southern season, which could be completed with third place. Fass made the decision to leave the Kickers and play in the northern season at VfL Osnabrück in the 1977/78 season , for which Fass played twelve games. He then moved to the USA for the Oakland Stompers and played briefly in the North American Soccer League , but he quickly moved back to Germany: From the 1978/79 season he played for SC Freiburg , which had just been promoted to the 2nd division . He stayed three years before moving to city rivals Freiburg FC , for whom he played another year in the 2nd division. Then he ended his career as a football player.
Others
Fass already studied medicine during his career as a football player , where he also obtained his doctorate. He is a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery and works in a practice in Freiburg and runs his own private clinic in Freiburg. He is also the team doctor for the Wölfe Freiburg ice hockey team .
