Volker W. Weidner

Volker W. Weidner (born December 24, 1947 in Brilon ) is a German former politician ( CDU ). From 1999 to 2004 he was the full-time mayor of the North Rhine-Westphalian district town of Unna .

Life

In 1954 the Weidner family moved from Brilon to Unna. Volker W. Weidner made in 1966 at the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium Unna graduated from high school, after which he studied at the University of Bochum Law and at the University of Dortmund on teacher training for primary and secondary school . After his 2nd state examination , he worked in the public school service, for example at the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Schule, an all-day school for repatriates in Unna- Massen (see also the article on the state office for repatriates, immigrants and foreign refugees in North Rhine-Westphalia ). Afterwards he was a teacher and department head in the Werl correctional facility and the Schwerte correctional facility for more than 20 years .

Weidner's mother was honorary chairwoman of the CDU Unna, his wife is a CDU member of the district council.

Political career and mayor's office

When Wilhelm Dördelmann ( SPD ) was mayor of Unna, Volker W. Weidner was vice mayor. Weidner was the full-time mayor of Unna from 1999 to 2004 as the successor to Wilhelm Dördelmann. His election was the first mayoral election in Unna that had been carried out as a direct election . In 2004, after a runoff election, he was defeated by his 1st alderman Werner Kolter (SPD).

After 39 years of membership, Volker Weidner left the CDU in 2009.
