particularities
UNESCO project school
Since 2005 the grammar school has been one of around 210 UNESCO project schools in Germany. In the course of this program, the goals of UNESCO are to be brought closer to the students, teachers and parents through school and extracurricular activities.
Furthermore, the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium undertakes in the course of the program to guide the students through an active learning atmosphere to independent and cooperative learning and to try out innovative forms of work. This takes place, for example, in the UNESCO working group “Future workshop PGU - actively shaping schools”.
Wind class
The Pestalozzi-Gymnasium is the only school in the city of Unna to offer the wind class project for grades 5 and 6. In this class, each child learns a wind instrument in an additional instrumental lesson in order to make music together in the class under the direction of the music teacher.
School camp
Since 1953 the school has the school hostel Föckinghausen in Bestwig . School classes from the 5th to 8th grade go to the school camp once per school year for one week. Each of these trips has a methodological or social motto, for example experience the environment or communication . In the upper level, learning weekends are offered in Föckinghausen, among other things to prepare for the Abitur .
The Landheim, located in the Hochsauerlandkreis , has extensive facilities for sports, media and entertainment. Extensive renovation measures were carried out in 2013 and 2014.
Compact ski course
In the 9th grade, the entire year goes to the compact ski course in Jochgrimm in South Tyrol , where the students can learn to ski and improve their skills. In addition, the careful handling of nature is a theme of the trip.
Comenius program
The Pestalozzi-Gymnasium regularly carries out mathematics projects as part of the Comenius program . Comenius projects are EU funded projects between European schools; the current program is being designed in collaboration with schools in Belgium , Switzerland , Latvia , Spain and Cyprus .
The participating pupils take part in the project in one of the five meetings in the partner schools, each of which has a specific motto and includes mathematical and cultural activities.
Working groups and afternoon care
The school traditionally offers numerous working groups (AGs) and afternoon programs in which the students can participate outside of regular lessons. These are organized and directed by both teachers and external managers, including the Unna youth art school.
