Volker Wiese

Volker Wiese (* 1971 ) is a German law scholar and professor at the Leibniz University of Hanover .

Life

Volker Wiese studied law at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the University of Strasbourg . After his first state examination in law in Heidelberg , he obtained a Master of Laws from McGill University in Montreal ( Canada ). After his return to Germany, he passed the second state examination after completing his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court in Berlin . In 2005 he completed under the supervision of Christian Armbrüster at the Bucerius Law Schoolcompleted his doctorate in Hamburg . In 2012, Volker Wiese also completed his habilitation there under Florian Faust on the subject of "Alternavität in Obligations" and received the venia legendi for the subjects civil law, civil procedural law, European and international private law and comparative law.

This was followed by a substitute professorship at the University of Heidelberg in the winter semester of 2012/13 and a visiting professorship at the University of Passau in 2013 . After serving as a professor at the University of Bayreuth for one year , he was appointed to the chair of civil law, international commercial and economic law, comparative law and civil procedural law at the EBS University of Economics and Law in Wiesbaden. He held this chair from 2014 to 2015. In April 2015, after a call from the University of Bayreuth, he moved to the chair there for civil law, German and international civil procedural law. In 2018 he received another appointment from Leibniz Universität Hannover and took over the chair for civil law, international private law and comparative law there on April 1, 2019.

Works (selection)

His research focuses in particular on European and international private law and consumer law and law of obligations. There are various articles in specialist journals and comments in specialist commentaries on these areas. Another focus is art law and the protection of cultural property. In 2018 he published the first commentary on the Cultural Property Protection Act (Germany) as co-editor (Elmenhorst / Wiese).
