Volkmar Kühn (born July 27, 1942 in Königsee ) is a German sculptor. In Gera in particular , numerous of his works are exhibited in public spaces.

Career

Kühn initially completed an apprenticeship as a ceramic modeler in the Sitzendorf porcelain factory from 1956 to 1958 . From 1959 to 1963 he studied under Hellmuth Chemnitz in the plastic department of the technical school for applied arts in Leipzig . After completing his studies, he first worked as a zoo keeper in Leipzig Zoo ; from 1964 he worked as a freelance artist in Gera . Since 1968 he has lived and worked in the former Mildenfurth monastery near Wünschendorf / Elster . He is married to the graphic designer Marita Kühn-Leihbecher.

In 2015, the Thuringian State Museum Heidecksburg - financed by the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen - took over an extensive collection of 56 small sculptures and a life-size horse sculpture from the artist. This was set up in April 2015 on the middle palace terrace of Heidecksburg.
