history

In order to improve the competitive conditions of the independent middle class in agriculture, trade and commerce, the idea of cooperative self-help was adopted and implemented in Sottrum. On October 12, 1892, the savings and loan fund Sottrum eGmbH was founded for the local population and the surrounding communities. Johann Dietrich Müller was founder, rendant and chairman of the board; "Dirksin Schrieber" held the main cash desk hours in the cash room of his house, Sottrum No. 57.

A few years later, two savings and loan funds were also set up in Ottersberg and Fischerhude. The cooperative idea also takes root in the towns of Fintel, Kirchwalsede and Otterstedt (Fintel 1905, Otterstedt 1909 and Kirchwalsede 1921).

In 1951 and 1952, branches of the savings and loan fund Sottrum were opened in the villages of Hellwege, Horstedt and Bötersen. 1961 also opened a branch in Waffensen. From 1958 to 1978 there was even a branch in Taaken.

In addition to the Sottrumers, the Ottersberg savings and loan association also expanded their locations to include Bassen (1963) and Posthausen (1973).

In 1966 the savings and loan association Ottersberg and the savings and loan association Otterstedt merge to form Volksbank Ottersberg eG. From 1986 the savings and loan fund Fischerhude also belonged to Volksbank Ottersberg eG.

In 1971 Volksbank Sottrum eG was created through the merger of the savings and loan funds Sottrum and Kirchwalsede. Two years later the branch in Ahausen is opened. Volksbank Fintel eG merged with Volksbank Sottrum eG in 1990.

In 1999, Volksbank Sottrum - Ottersberg - Scheeßel was created from the merger of Volksbank Ottersberg eG and Volksbank Sottrum eG and the takeover of the Scheeßel branch from Bremische Volksbank eG .

In 2004 Volksbank eG opened another branch on the Neuer Markt in Rotenburg. The office in Otterstedt will be converted into a pure self-service office in 2006 and the locations in Hellwege, Horstedt and Waffensen will be closed in 2007.
